What is Eczema?
Eczema is a recurring or chronic skin condition, also known as atopic eczema, or by its medical name, atopic dermatitis. It most often occurs in babies and children, but can also affect adults. Eczema is itchy, often unattractive, and irritating but not contagious.

It may be linked to dry skin, allergies, or immune system dysfunction, although stress can also worsen this skin disorder. Eczema rashes can occur almost anywhere on the body. Common eczema symptoms include:

• red and brown roughened areas on the skin
• raised bumps which may weep and crust over
• itchiness, especially at night
• thick, scaly skin that may crack in cold weather, or under other conditions that are drying
• sensitivity and pain

Childhood Eczema often occurs on the face, neck, and limbs, and may be worsened by exposure to chemicals in detergents, soaps, shampoo and other personal care products.

 
Choosing the Essential Oils for Eczema Natural Treatment
There are many oils that can be helpful as an eczema treatment, either “neat” (without dilution) or mixed into a base of extra virgin olive oil or another pure, organic oil.

For safety reasons, only therapeutic-grade oils, such as Young Living Essential Oils,  whose source is known and trusted should be applied to the skin – inferior quality oils contain chemicals and may worsen eczema symptoms.
The best oils to use as eczema treatment include:

• lavender
• helichrysum
• rose
• Melaleuca alternifolia (commonly called “tea tree”)
• rosemary
• patchouli
• chamomile

I am a true believer of essential oils thanks to a co-worker of mine that introduced me to them for my Eczema.

Every winter I get dry, itchy, cracking and scaly skin on my one hand. I have lived with psoriasis my entire life and now have a form of dermatitis or eczema that was constantly cracked and bleeding. In Lakota Native American healing practices, healers sweep a feather upwards along the spine in imitation of the Northern Lights, which are revered for their healing energy.

7 single oils and 2 therapeutic blends are applied in the raindrop technique, using a method Vita Flex, reflexology, massage techniques, etc.  The oils are applied to various locations of the body to bring it structural and electrical alignment.  It is designed to bring balance to the body with its relaxing and mild application. It will help align the energy centers of the body and release them, if blocked, without using hard pressure or trying to force the body to change – which should never be done.

 The recipient lays face down as oils are dropped along the spine, from a height of 6-12 inches. The oils are gently massaged in with the Lakota “feathering” motion. The basic raindrop oils are as follows:

Valor (a blend of: Spruce, Rosewood, Frankincense, Blue Tansy, Lavender) works on the physical, electrical, spiritual and emotional levels, supporting physical and energy alignment.

Oregano: has potent antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Thyme: is highly antimicrobial, inhibiting the growth of infectious microorganisms.  It easily penetrates the skin and travels throughout the body.

Basil: has antispasmodic properties that relax the muscles. Also anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial.

Cypress: improves circulation, relieves spasms and swelling and helps heal damaged tissue.

Wintergreen: is anti-inflammatory and analgesic (pain-relieving) due to high content of methyl slicylate, excellent for bones, muscles and joints.

Marjoram: is antispasmodic, antiseptic, and antimicrobial, nerve calming and muscle relaxing.

Peppermint: enhances the effects of all preceeding oils. It is pain-killing, antimicrobial, stimulates circulation and cooles inflamed tissue.

Aroma Siez:  (a blend of: Basil, Cypress, Marjoram, Lavender, Peppermint) is anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxing, promotes circulation and treats tight, aching muscles, resulting from injury, fatigue or stress, relieves headaches.

These therapeutic-grade oils flush out toxins and kill dormant viruses and bacteria along the spine, restoring health to the entire system.  It is important for both the trainer and the recipient drink plenty of water before and after the application.

Cautions

1. Raindrop technique was designed to optimize the power of only the highest quality, pure, organic, therapeutic-grade oils.
2. Several of the oils used in this technique, including oregano, thyme and basil, are considered hot oils. These oils can cause skin irritation. Keep a bottle of pure, natural massage oil base handy. If any of the hot oils cause irritation, which is perfectly normal, simply apply massage oil liberally to soothe the heat.

The question is often asked, “How long does this application last?”  Everyone responds differently. Generally speaking, the level of health and proper diet are key factors as are exercise and mental attitude.  One application may last months for one person, but then for another it may be necessary to have the application every week until the body begins to respond.  The key is to retrain the body.  In some cases, you will have to develop a new memory in the tissue in order for the body to stay where it should be.  This may take a few weeks or over a year.
